Is Age a Problem to Start a Business?

March 13, 2021 By RoiC2020

This is probably one of the questions the people in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s ask. But does age matter in starting a business? We’ve heard countless amazing success stories of young business people who managed to grow their start-ups into millions and even billions. One of the people who comes to mind is Mark Zuckerberg, who started Facebook at the age of 19. How can a young mind manage to grow his company and years later become one of the top 10 wealthiest people in the world?

And looking at yourself, being in your 30s, 40s, and 50s, hesitation to manage a startup. Yes, young entrepreneurs have the talent, skills, vision, and time to grow their business. But do not look down on yourself because it is never too late to start. Success can knock on everyone, but will you let the doors close just because you are past your 20s?

Don’t Let the Stereotype Dictate you!

You can counter the stereotype. The decision is yours to make. Many successful business people started at a young age, but some started late but became very successful. Mary Kay Ash used to sell books and home decors until she was 45 when she ventured into the cosmetic industry. Now her brand, Mary Kay, became one of the biggest cosmetics brands in the industry. Ray Kroc used to sell paper cups and milkshake mixers until he was 52 when he decided to start McDonald’s, which now grew to be one of the biggest fast-food chains worldwide.

These are just some of the few who manage to be successful in business despite starting late. They broke the stereotype and worked their way to success. It’s never too late for you as well.

You’ve Got to Have the Vision.

Everything starts with a vision. Where do you want to be 5 to 10 years from now? If you are in your 30s, where do you want to be in your 40s? If you are in your 40s, what kind of success do you want to experience in your 50s? You’re never too old to have a vision. Young entrepreneurs have dreams and visions which drive them to start young. Being advanced in years doesn’t mean that you can no longer dream and have a vision. You definitely can. So if you’ve long forgotten your vision to succeed, now is the time to revisit and take a step forward to that vision.

Diligence is the Key.

Age has nothing to do with diligence. It is a decision that you have to make every day. Being advanced in years means that you have more experience with life. You have your share of successes and failures as well. Make those an advantage to start a business even at your age. Use those experiences to drive you to be more diligent in the venture you are about to start.

Continue to Learn.

You are never too old to learn. There could be new things that you have to learn to succeed. You have to be updated with the latest technology to do things better. Do not be afraid to learn the things that young people learn. Learning is a continuous process, so do not limit yourself to what you already know.

Key Takeaway.

Do not let your age dictate your success. Whether you are in your 30s, 40s, or even 50s, business success is possible. You just have to try and take the first step to start your own business.
